Degree Programs Well Suited to Veterans
For the last five years, we have been working with military students - including veterans - who have earned their college degrees.

There are a range of degree programs from engineering to medical, from public service to education, from international studies to law and business that are well suited to veterans who have served in the military.

Do you see yourself as technically inclined, good in Math or scientific in nature? If so, there are many fields in engineering, science and technology now open to you. Demand for all types of engineers remains constant and jobs pay well. And our federal economy continues to draw upon advances made in science and techology.

If you think in linear terms, are gifted in quantitative subjects or have enjoyed involvement in operational activities; certificate and degree programs in logistics and supply chain management or project and resource management might be a potential fit for you.

Accounting, insurance and asset planning represent areas of study which would allow you to apply quantitative skills or an interest in managing risk to pursue a future degree and career in one of these professions.

Other areas of business, such as programs in entrepreneurship and business management, leverage the ingenuity, resourcefulness and management skills you first discovered and have consistently used while in the service.

If you like dealing with people, many members of the military have made successful second careers as Human Resource (HR) professionals. If you are a good leader, and gifted at strategic thinking, there is employment demand for military personnel who want to pursue business management degrees.

Our military has led to many advances in medicine and new applications of health care. With our aging population and focus on national healthcare, there are many rewarding careers related to medicine such as becoming a doctor, dentist, nurse and therapist which might be of interest to you.

The increasingly global nature of many industries affords you numerous career opportunities which combine future studies with your past experiences abroad in the military related to language and culture with other countries.

The military is all about service to country, which translates well to other types of service opportunities. Applications of community and public service outside the military are varied and abundant. With the nonprofit sector growing faster than for profits or the government, employment and a profession with a nonprofit could answer your calling in community service.

Climate change and sustainability are driving the movement of more responsibility in business and government. Organizations are now looking for people with social awareness who understand various impacts on our environment.

The education profession is also in need of many new teachers and future administrators. The success of Troops to Teachers is a testament to how well veterans have transitioned to new careers in education.

Many people who work for the government came from the military, which provides a path for veterans to continue their service by working in the public sector. Because our government now creates much economic activity, the public sector will continue creating jobs and future career opportunities.

Law enforcement with careers in everything from the practice of law as an attorney to police work to criminal justice to forensics and intelligence are always open to you and fit well with your military background. Many future careers involving civic duty, preservation of law and public policy get started with a certificate program or college degree.
